Prospect Lake 6K

I did my first Open water race today, the 4 loops 4 fun Prospect Lake 6K. My time was 1:21.48. I felt good and drank a lot of lake water.

My main problem was trying to swim straight. I zigzagged a lot and would occasionally do or 2 strokes breaststroke when I really got disoriented. The fellow who was swimming by me for most of the race told me I must have swum an extra quarter mile.

Karen Reeder, who was the registrar for the race, gave me some advice to help with straightening out. She told me to find the next buoy after going around a turn, and try to find something tall along the same line. She also told me that it helps to keep a bearing on where the sun is in relation to the buoy.

I felt pretty good about my elbows, and kept them nice and high for the most part. I'll just have to work on swimming straight.
