04/22/09 -- Good times, bad times...

...you know I've had my share. All my strokes felt great today and I had a great broken 400 IM. Then, on the 25s near the end, I felt a pop on the outside of my left shoulder and that shoulder started getting a warm -- not usually a great sign. Shit! I thought. I immediately started a long warmdown with lots of easy kicking and tried to assess what happened.

I don't think I did any serious damage because it didn't hurt -- there was just the pop and the warmth. I have full range of motion and no pain, so that's good. Nothing feels torn or strained. Still, I'm going to RICE it and monitor it closely for the next few days.

At least I've reached the point where I'm supposed to start resting more and more.

I wore my Speed V silicone cap on the 400 IM. I wanted to get a feel for how my cap would feel with my new goggles. The reason I got new goggles is that the cap is pretty tight and it pulls the corners of my eyes a bit, so my Swedes were filling with water more often than I'd care for. So I got new goggles to try. The new setup worked a little better, but I still have to be careful to pull the goggle straps back underneath my cap some.
